Tyreke Evans started his career when he attended the American Christian Academy in Aston, Pennsylvania and joined the school's basketball team. He was named MVP during McDonalds's High School All-American Game. While with the team, he was included in the documentary, " Gunning for that #1 Spot", and it was directed by Beastie Boys' Adam Yauch.

He considered attending University of Texas and Villanova University, but he chose to play for the University of Memphis Tigers basketball team.
