Paul George played for Knight High School's basketball team. While with the team, he was named as the Golden League Most Valuable Player during the Golden League championship, and for the Antelope Valley Press' Player of the Year in 2007.

For two years, he played for the Fresno State Bulldogs and included in the list by Sports Illustrated as one of the Top 16 Most Entertaining Players in College Basketball. George was named All-WAC Second Team, and ranked 2nd in the WAC in terms of free throw percentage, steals, and steals per game.

George's pro career commenced when he entered the 2010 NBA Draft. He was selected by the Indiana Pacers as the first round, 10th overall pick during the draft process. He appeared twice in NBA All-Star in 2013 and 2014.
