Nikola Pekovic began his career at age 15 when he joined the team representing Podgorica. Upon relocating to Belgrade, he signed a contract with Atlas. Two years later, he played for the Partizan. With three consecutive Serbian League, two Adriatic League and Serbian Cup titles, he earned the MVP in 2008.
When he was with the Panathinaikos, he was voted to the All-Euroleague First Team and led them to win two Greek League title and 2009 Greek Cup.
Pekovic landed a spot in the 2008 NBA Draft and selected 31st overall by the Minnesota Timberwolves. He averaged a career high 17.5 points and 8.7 rebounds during the 54 regular season games that he appeared.
