Kevin Ware played basketball when he was in high school for Rockdale County in Conyers, Georgia. Then in 2011, he played for Louisville Cardinals.

During his first year with the Cardinals, he played limited minutes. But when he stepped in into his sophomore year, his minutes playing for Louisville increased as first guard off the bench to relieve Peyton Siva and  Russ Smith. Also on the same year whereas he was suspended by Rick Pitino for a game against Pittsburgh due to a disciplinary issue.  Upon his return, Ware's production and minutes increased for the remainder of the season.

During the first half of the Elite Eight in 2013, he was injured, suffering a compound fracture to his right leg. And when he returned for the 2013-14 season, Cardinals won the NCAA championship crown.
