Jameer Nelson was a letterman in basketball for the Chester High School. In college, he played for Saint Joseph's Hawks men's basketball team. During his final year with the team, he received the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award. He won the Wooden Award, Naismith Award, and Bob Cousy Award in 2004.

He was chosen by the Orlando Magic as the first round, 20th overall pick during the 2004 NBA Draft. After 10 seasons with the team, he was waived by the Magic. He had a brief stint with several teams which include Dallas Mavericks, Boston Celtics and Denver Nuggets.
