Gheorghe Muresan started his career when he joined the Cluj University's basketball team. He then played for the CS Universitatea Mobitelco in 1991-1992 season. His professional stint began when he appeared to play for Pau-Orthez during the 1992-93 season.

He was spotted by the people from NBA and was selected by the Washington Bullets during the NBA Draft in 1993. He turned to France for the 1995-96 season with Pau-Orthez.
