From Janesville, Wisconsin, USA, Travis Wade Kvapil was born on March 1, 1976. Currently, Kvapil is married to Jennifer, with whom he has three children named Caden, Carson and Kelsey.

Kvapil made his racing debut at Rockford Speedway in 1992 when he was just 16, competing in the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series. In 2001, he debuted into Craftsman Truck Series. In the same year, he was named as the Craftsman Truck Series Rookie of the Year. He won his first Craftsman Truck Series championship two years later.
