Tony Kanaan is a Brazilian race car driver of Lebanese heritage. He has an estimated net worth of $20 million. He began racing for Italy in the early 90's and then moved to the U.S. He became the 1997 Indy Lights Champion and the 1999 U.S. 500 in Michigan. As a serious racing contender, he started out well in the early 2000's. He raced in a Honda for Mo Nunn until the team lost its primary funding in 2002. Kanaan then raced for Andretti Green of Andretti Autosport and he has won several races. He ranked 1st in 2004, 2nd in 2005, and 3rd in 2007 and 2008.
In 2004, Kanaan won the Indy Racing League IndyCar Series championship while driving Andretti Green Racing’s 7-Eleven sponsored card and won three times in his Honda-powered Dallara. He is the first IndyCar driver to have completed every possible lap in a season with 3,305. He has also established an IndyCar Series record when he led 889 laps in 13 separate races. He is the only driver to lead the Indianapolis 500 in each of his first seven starts though he has yet to win this flagship event. He has a total of 14 IRL race victories. He left Andretti in 2011 and initially signed on with de Ferran Dragon Racing but the team shut down when sponsorship could not be materialized. He began racing for KV Racing technology and drives the #11 even though he has been less pleased with the speed of their cars.
