Scottish former racing driver, Sir John Young 'Jackie' Stewart has a net worth of $63 million as of May 2012, according to the Sunday Times Rich List. The three-time Formula One world champion started out as an apprentice mechanic at his father's garage near Dumbarton in Scotland.

During his career at the top and afterwards, Stewart has consistently earned more than £2m a year from on- and off-track activities and sponsorship deals. He was always careful to invest his wealth wisely, buying a $25m home overlooking Lake Geneva in Switzerland that he later sold to rock star Phil Collins. But his wealth really increased when the Stewart Racing Team he established with his son, Paul, in 1996, was sold to Ford in 1999 for £50m — it became Jaguar Racing and was sold in 2005 to Red Bull Racing, which gave Sebastian Vettel the world drivers' title in 2010 and 2011. He was also a crack shot, representing Scotland in clay-pigeon shooting. A long-time ambassador for the Royal Bank of Scotland, Stewart waived his annual £4m fee for a year when the bank was in serious trouble.
