Richard Childress is a former NASCAR driver who has an estimated net worth of $200 million. Born on September 21, 1945 in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, his professional racing career started in quite a strange way. He was drafted to race after the current NASCAR drivers decided to go on strike. He might be an average driver but he was able to finish third place in 1978 which was his personal best.
Mr. Childress is an excellent manager. In 1983, he won with his driver Ricky Rudd. Since then, he began to recruit additional drivers including Dale Earnhardt who went on to win several championships. His Richard Childress Racing (RCR) team has been one of the most successful teams in the history of NASCAR. Some of its Sprint Cup Drivers are Paul Menard, Kevin Harvick, Jeff Burton and Clint Bowyer. Other drivers included National Series driver Austin Dillion, Camping World Truck driver Joey Coulter and Arca Re/Max Series drivers Tim George Jr. and Ty Dillion.
Aside from his work with NASCAR, he is one entrepreneur who became one of the wealthiest men in North Carolina. He opened a vineyard in 2003/2004 called the Childress Vineyard in the Yadkin Valley AVA, an American Viticultural Area in North Carolina. He is a member of the Board of Directors of National Riffle Association. He also opened the Richard Childress Racing Museum.
