Nigel Mansell has a net worth of $80 million as of May 2012, according to the Sunday Times Rich List. Mansell is one of the most popular British Formula One drivers of all time – fans loved his attacking driving style, even if things didn't always go to plan. He drove for Lotus and Ferrari, but it was at Williams where he enjoyed most success. Mansell won the Formula One world championship with Williams in 1992 and the CART IndyCar title in the US the following year. He started as an apprentice engineer at Lucas Aerospace, working initially as a laboratory technician while spending much of his spare time racing go-karts. When he was 24 he moved into single-seater racing cars, winning the 1977 British Formula Ford championship. He then sold his flat so that he could afford to compete in Formula Three, and two years later drove in his first grand prix, for Lotus.
He retired in 1995, having made £45m from motor racing. His other passion is golf, and he owned Woodbury Park golf club in Devon before selling it for £14m in 2007. He now lives on Jersey and has a £3m private jet and £1.3m yacht.
