Aside from Dan Gurney, Mario Andretti is one of two drivers who have the championship in competitions like IndyCar, NASCAR, World Sportscar Championship and Formula One. While on F1, he was part of teams like Lotus, Williams, Alfa Romeo, March, Parnelli and Ferrari. On his 24 Hours of Le Mans career, he was a member of teams like Holman Moody, Panoz Motorsports, Grand Touring Cars Inc., Courage Compétition and Porsche AG.
Andretti was declared as the grand champion at the 1978 Formula One World Championship event and since his success at the 1978 Formula One Dutch Grand Prix, no other American has won the said competition.
