Born on April 9, 1971, this Canadian driver actually came from a family of race car drivers. His uncle is a racer and his father, Gilles Villaneuve is a Formula One driver. Prior to his career at Formula One,Villeneuve has won the 1995 Indianapolis 500,  1997 Formula One World Championship and 1995 CART Championship.

In 1999, he started competing for British American Racing where he stayed for the next four seasons. However, he was eventually replaced by Takuma Sato, a former British Formula Three Champion, due to his poor performance.

After Formula One, Villeneuve began setting for another sports racing career. He participated in Peugeot (2007) and 24 Hours of Le Mans (2008) before he decided to race for NASCAR.

Jacques Villeneuve married  Johanna Martinez in 2006. The couple had their first child, Jules, in November 2006. A year later, Johanna gave birth to their second child named Jonas. In July 2009, the couple divorced.
