Former Scottish Formula One racing driver, David Coulthard has a net worth of $77 million as of May 2012, according to the Sunday Times Rich List. He won 13 grands prix, but it took him 247 races to do so. After starting his F1 career with Williams, the Scot moved to McLaren, where he had the misfortune to be regarded as the No 2 driver to Mika Hakkinen. Although he finished second to Michael Schumacher in the 2001 world championship, Coulthard scored 65 points while the German racked up 123. After eight years at McLaren, he was signed up by Red Bull Racing — sadly, they were not the team they are now, and Coulthard spent much of the final four years of his career as an also-ran. Red Bull clearly saw something in him, however, as he is now a team consultant and recently showed actor Tom Cruise how to drive an F1 car.

Despite his relatively few wins, the 535 points he scored make him the highest-scoring British driver. He has been a regular member of BBC’s F1 team since 2009. Coulthard co-owned Monaco’s Columbus Hotel, which was sold in 2010 for more than £30 million. He lives in Monaco and has properties in London, Belgium and Switzerland. With the hotel sale proceeds and past salaries from racing, Coulthard is worth at least £50 million. He is engaged to Karen Minier, a Belgian Formula One correspondent for French TV channel TF1 since June 2006. Coulthard’s second cousin, New Zealander Fabian Coulthard, is also a racing driver, racing in the Australian V8 Supercar Championship Series for Brad Jones Racing.
