Born Darrell Lee Waltrip on February 5, 1947 in Owensboro, Kentucky, he started his driving career in Go-Karts at the age of 12. His first race was during the 1995 Heartland Tailgate 175. In his career, he has had 59 career pole positions, 4th on the all list. He is tied for third in NASCAR’s all-time win list with Bobby Allison and has won 84 Winston Cup races and tied with Allison for third on the all-time list. His last race was in the 2005 Kroger 200 in Martinsville. He is noted for his work on the film Cars and has appeared in Talledega Nights. He has done commercials and co-wrote the book DW: A Lifetime of Going Around the Circles.
