Roy Nelson is an American mixed martial artist who competes in the heavyweight division of Ultimate Fighting Championship.

Roy Nelson trained at the age of 16 in Shaolin Kung Fu and Karate. In 2000, he honed his skill in Brazilian jiu-jitsu under the tutulage of UFC veteran fighter John Lewis.

In 2004, Nelson debuted in a mixed martial arts and won the Rage of the River Heavyweight Tournament. Then, he joined International Fight League in 2007, when he asked to become the member of IFL's Nevada Lions. Also on the same year, he was named as Heavyweight Champion during the IFL World Grand Prix.

Nelson was among the sixteen fighters appeared in The Ultimate Fighter: Heavyweights and won a contract with UFC. During his first fight, he won against Stefan Struve in UFC Fight Night 21 and won seven bouts during his stint for the league. Then, he was given an opportunity as one of the coach for The Ultimate Fighter, along with Shane Carwin.

Roy Nelson was born on June 20, 1976 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He attended Cimarron Memorial High School. He is married to Jessy Nelson in 2009 and have a son.
