Gilbert Melendez is an American mixed martial artist with an estimated net worth of $500 thousand.

Gilbert Melendez started to wrestled during high school. While in college, he was introduced to MMA by fellow fighter Jake Shields. He made his debut at Zuffa World Extreme Cagefighting.

He became the first WEC Lightweight Champion as Melendez defeated Olaf Alfonso at WEC 10. As he fought a lot of fighters which he eventually won several times, he also appeared at PRIDE FC and Strikeforce.

Melendez won Strikeforce Lightweight Championship on June 9, 2006. He held the said belt for two years.  With numerous fights, he made his promotional debut at UFC when he faced against Benson Henderson on April 20, 2013.

He re-signed his contract with the UFC after offers has made with Bellafor and World Series of Fighting. Melendez will serve as coach on The Ultimate Fighter that was slated to face Anthony Pettis in late 2014.

Gilbert Q. Melendez was born on April 12, 1982 in Santa Ana, California. He attended San Francisco State University and took up a degree in liberal arts. He is married to Keri Anne and has a daughter.
