At age 18, McGregor made his MMA debut in a fight against Ciaran Campbell in Dublin, Ireland. After winning the first round via technical knockout, McGregor went on to play for the Irish Cage of Truth promotion. Over a year later, McGregor made his professional MMA debut where he upset his opponent, Gary Morris, with a second round knockout. Since 2o11, he made 14-fight winning streak where nine out of twelve fights were won via first-round knockout. He also made one of the fastest recorded knockouts in the history of the MMA after defeating his opponent at the Immortal Fighting Championship in just four seconds. In 2012, he won the CWFC Lightweight and Featherweight titles which made him the first European to have held two division titles at a single time.

A year later, McGregor was signed to a multi-fight contract by the Ultimate Fighting Championship.
