Chris Weidman began his career when he joined the college wrestling team. He earned All-American wrestling honors twice at Nassau Community College. Then, he moved to Hofstra as he received the NYS Collegiate Champion, two-time Division 1 All-American, and third placer in the NCAA tournament.
He took jiu-jitsu classes, and after three months of rigid training , Weidman competed in several amateur tournaments. Then, while he was being trained for the Olympics trials, Gabriel Toribio brought him to the MMA Academy owned by Ray Longo.
Weidman debuted on MMA during the Ring of Combat, and represented Team Serra-Longo in 2009. Two years later, he joined the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He faced Alessio Sakara during the UFC Live: Sanchez vs Kampmann, and won via unanimous decision.
He was named by Yahoo! Sports as Fighter of the Year in 2013, and UFC Middleweight Champion from his fight against Anderson Silva. Weidman also hailed as Sherdog's Knockout of the Year 2013.
