Alan Belcher did trained karate when he was eight years old, and pursued his amateur career in mixed martial arts seven years later. While studying at Sloan-Hendrix High School at Imboden, Arkansas, he joined the football, baseball and basketball team.
In 2004, his career as a mixed martial artist hyped up when Belcher made it to the Freestyle Fighting Championship, and won by TKO against Tim Ellis. Two years later, he appeared in Ultimate Fighting Championship's UFC 62 bout, as he was defeated by Yushin Okami by unanimous decision.
With his superb skills using Brazilian jiu-jitsu in every fight on UFC, Belcher won nine bouts, and has faced several fighters like Michael Bisping, Ed Herman, Jason Day, and Kalib Starnes. He was two-time Fight of the Night and Submission of the Night recipient.
