Brazilian mixed martial artist Loyoto Machida has an estimated net worth of $3 million. He was born Lyoto Carvalho Machida on May 30, 1978 in Salvador, Brazil. He is the third son of the highly ranked head of the Brazilian branch of the Japan Karate Association, Shotokan karate master Yoshizo Machida. Her mother, Ana Claudia, is Brazilian whom his father married when he moved to Brazil at the age of 22. Lyoto grew up in Belem where he began training in karate and earned a black belt at 13. He also trained in sumo at 12 and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at 15. He won several amateur karate tournaments including the 2001 Pan American Karate tournament.

Machida was a runner-up in the 2000 Brazilian Sumo Championships in the 115kg division. He began his career in the mixed martial arts under the management of legendary pro wrestler and MMA pioneer Antonio Inoki in Japan. He was trained by Vale Tudo legends Wallid Ismail in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Marco Ruas in Muay Thai, and by New Japan Pro-Wresting legend Kazuyuki Fujita. He left the Office Inoki to form The Black House Team along with Vale Tudo legends Anderson Silva, Carlos Baretto and Assuerio Silva.

He debuted on the preliminary card of UFC 67 against Sam Hoger and won by unanimous decision. He now holds significant wins over some of the toughest MMA fighters including Sam Greco, BJ Penn, Rich Franklin, Michael McDonald and Tito Ortiz. He competed as a Light Heavyweight in the UFC and he currently ranked as the #1 contender in his division in the official UFC fighter rankings.
