He made the transition in 1989 and went on to win several competitions. After 2000, McGrath’s career was loomed with injuries and became intermittently successful. He has won the second most AMA Supercross and motocross victories. In 2003, he was inducted into the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame. He took a brief period of retirement but came back in 2003 and raced until 2006 when he announced his official retirement. He consistently placed in the Top 5 before he retired. In the same year, he launched his own event, the McGrath Invitational. He has published an autobiography entitled Wide Open: A Life in Supercross.
