Zdeno Chara is a Slovak professional ice hockey player for Boston Bruins.
Zdeno Chara started his playing career during the time he joined the NHL Entry Draft in 1996. He was chosen by the New York Islanders in the 3rd round, 56th overall pick.
While he spent four seasons with the team, Chara became known for his stay at home defender. He eventually traded by the Ottawa Senators to Alexei Yashin in 2001. As he joined with the team, he became a two-way defenseman.
Chara's stint with the Senators, he decided that he would not continue playing with the team and became a unrestricted free agent at the end of 2005-06 season. Then, he moved to Boston Bruins on July 1, 2006.
With Bruins, Chara hailed as team's captain and appeared in the 2007 All-Star Game. He was five-time Hardest Shot winner during the NHL All-Star Game SuperSkills competition. Also, he was the recipient of Mark Messier Leadership Award and led the team winning the Stanley Cup in 2011.
Zdeno Chára was born on March 18, 1977 in Trenčín, Czechoslovakia. He was hailed as Right to Play's Athletic Ambasssador. He attended Algonquin College in Ottawa and had a financial planning diploma. On July 14, 2007, he married Tatiana Biskupicová and has a daughter.
