Rob Ray started his career as an ice hockey player when he played competitive hockey for his hometown, Stirling Blues. Then, he was drafted by the Cornwall Royals during the 5th round of the OHL Priority Selection.
He landed a spot for the Buffalo Sabres during the fifth round of the NHL Entry Draft in 1988. Then, after 14 seasons with the team, Ray was traded to Ottawa Senators.
He ended his career with 3,207 career penalty minutes, Ray worked with the Sabres Hockey Network as an post game reporter. In 2012, he became the color commentator for Sabres.
