Michal Handzus started his professional career when he was chosen during the 1995 NHL Entry Draft by the St. Louis Blues. He stayed with the team for two and a half season. While with the team, he landed the second spot in voting for the Frank J. Seike Trophy. He was traded to the Phoenix Coyotes during the 2001-2002 season.
After two seasons with the Coyotes, Handzus has been played with several teams such as Philadelphia Flyers, Chicago Blackhawks, Los Angeles Kings and San Jose Sharks. While with the Sharks, he was transferred to the Blackhawks during the shortened lockout season in 2013.
Handzus decided to be a free agent when the team announced that they would not re-sign him after the 2013-2014 season.
