Claude Giroux played for the Hearst Lumber Kings' Bantam A in 2001-2002 season. When his family relocated to Orleans, Ontario, he joined Cumberland Barons' Major Bantam AA and Minor Midget AA. Though undrafted, he still played during the 2004 Ontario Hockey League for the Cumberland Grads.

He joined the Gatineau Olympiques and contributed 39 goals, 103 points in 69 games with the team. Giroux was named Quebec Major Junior Hockey League's Rookie of the Year.

In 2006 NHL Entry Draft, he was selected as the 22nd overall by the Philadelphia Flyers. Giroux received the Prince of Wales Trophy in 2010 and played in the NHL All-Star Game in 2010, 2012 and 2015.
