Suzann Pettersen played her first golf tournament at the age of six. As an amateur golfer, she was a five-time Norwegian Amateur Champion from 1996 to 2000 and was the British Girls Champion in 1999. She represented Europe twice in the Ryder Cup sometime in 1997 and 1999.
She turned professional in September 2000 which gained her Ladies European Team card with an 11th place finished at the 2001 LET Qualifying School. With 22 professional wins, Pettersen received the 2001 Ladies European Tour Rookie of the Year award and the 2003 Ladies European Tour Order of Merit.
