Quick Links
Northern Ireland professional golfer, Rory McIlroy has an estimated net worth of $90 million. McIlroy has the world at his feet, many sages shook their heads when he threw away a four-shot lead at The Masters last year, suffering a public meltdown as he battled to keep his emotions in check. The consensus was that it would take him a long time to recover, years perhaps. They didn't know him. At the next major, the US Open, he destroyed a world-class field, winning by a remarkable eight strokes and thrilling all who saw him. Twelve months earlier, the tournament had been won by Graeme McDowell, also from Northern Ireland, and Darren Clarke completed a remarkable hat-trick when he won The Open in July 2011. Interestingly, the Americans have taken McIlroy, who has already won £13 million in prize money, to their hearts. Then there is sponsorship income. He recently signed a multi-million pound deal with Santander bank to add to his other top sponsors, including Jumeirah and Oakley. He is reckoned to be one of the most marketable sports personalities in the world. When he turned pro he joined Chubby Chandler's International Sports Management stable alongside the likes of Clarke, Lee Westwood, Charl Schwartzel and Louis Oosthuizen, but in October 2011 he left to join Dublin-based Horizon Sports Management. The Ulster-born golfer has been called the "most exciting young player in the world" by the legendary Gary Player. He is dating the Danish tennis player Caroline Wozniacki. Away from golf, McIlroy is a keen Manchester United supporter. He was made an MBE in the New Year's Honours List. McIlroy was born on 4 May 1989 in Holywood, County Down, a port town in Northern Ireland.
