English football manager and former player, Stephen Roger "Steve" Bruce has a net worth of $21 million as of May 2012, according to the Sunday Times Rich List. Bruce started his career as a player with Gillingham, playing more than 200 games for the club before joining Norwich City in 1984. In 1987, he moved to Manchester United, with whom he achieved great success, winning the Premier League, FA Cup, Football League Cup and European Cup Winner's Cup. He also became the first English player of the twentieth century to captain a team to The Double. Bruce began his managerial career with Sheffield United, and spent short periods of time managing Huddersfield Town, Wigan Athletic and Crystal Palace before joining Birmingham City in 2001.

Life as the Sunderland manager turned sour for Bruce within months of him signing an extended £3m-a-year, three-year contract in February 2011. The side recorded three home wins all year and by December Bruce was gone, picking up a payoff worth at least £3m, given the length of time remaining on his contract. The former Manchester United captain has since appeared as a pundit on programmes such as Match of the Day 2.
