Ottmar Hitzfeld is a former German professional football player and retired manager with an estimated net worth of $5 million.

Ottmar Hitzfeld started his football career as a striker for TuS Stetten and FV Lorrach. He joined the Swiss first division team, FC Basel and stayed with the team over the next four years. During his stint with the team, they won the 1972 and 1973 Swiss championships.

He also played for VfB Stuttgart, Lugano and Luzern. Hitzfeld decided to finish his career in 1983. Also on the same year, he got his first coaching job with the FC Zug and stayed with the team for a year. In 1984, he received an offer to manage FC Aarau which lasted until 1988.

Hitzfeld moved to the Grasshopper from 1988 to 1991. During his tenure, the team won the Swiss Super League in 1989-90 and 1990-91, Swiss Cup champion in 1990-91 and 1989 Swiss Super Cup. In 1991, he received an offer from Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund.

During his six seasons with Dortmund, they won the Bundesliga title in 1995 and 1996. Also, Hitzfeld was hailed as IFFHS World's Best Club Coach and World Soccer Magazine World Manager of the Year in 1997.

He served as manager for Bayern Munich between 1991-1997 and 2007-2008. Hitzfeld dominated Bundesliga by winning the title five times. Also, he was the Swiss national team coach from 2008 to 2014. He announced his retirement from coaching on July 1, 2014.
