Luiz Felipe Scolari became a football player for several teams which include the Caxias, Juventude, Novo Hamburgo, and CSA. In 1982, he retired from playing in the field, and was appointed as the CSA manager. During his first season with the team, they won the Alagoano state championship. Eventually, he moved to other teams such as Juventude, Brasil de Pelotas, and Al-Shabab.

He had a two-year stint in Al-Qadisiya Kuwait and won the coveted Kuwait Emir Cup in 1989. Scolari had a brief stay with the Kuwait national team.
