Bill Parcells was born on August 22, 1941 in Englewood, New Jersey. After graduation from River Dell Regional High School, he attended Colgate University. He was offered a contract to play for the Philadelphia Phillies. However, his father disapproved because he wanted him to study law. Eventually, he studied at the University of Wichita where he completed his degree in physical education.

In 1964, he was selected as a 7th round pick by the Detroit Lions but was released before he even got the chance to play in a single NFL game. In 1979, he became the defensive coordinator of the New York Giants. From 1983 through 1990, Parcells became the head coach of the New York Giants. He also served as the head coach of the New York Jets from 1997 through 1999.
