Juan Felix Trinidad Garcia was born on January 10, 1973 in Fajardo, Puerto Rico. Nicknamed “Tito”, he is considered as one of the best boxers in the history of Puerto Rico along with Wilfred Benitez, Wilfredo Gomez, Hector “Macho” Camacho and Carlos Ortiz. He has won five National Amateur Championships in the country before he turned pro at the age of 17.

Trinidad became the youngest welterweight champion after three years. He won his first title against Maurice Broker for the International Boxing Federation (IBF). He defended his title for a record of 15 times and is second in history. He still holds the record of longest reign as the welterweight champion for six years, eight months and fourteen days.

Among Tito’s prominent victories included Oscar De La Hoya in Lineal and World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight division, Fernando Vargas in a unification fight for the IBF light middleweight division, and William Joppy in the World Boxing Association (WBA) middleweight division.

Felix Trinidad will be inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame on June 4, 2014. He will be the tenth Puerto Rican to receive such honor.
