Ty Cobb started his career when he joined Royston Rompers. Before he turned professional, he played for several teams such as Royston Reds, and Augusta Tourists. In 1905, he was sold to the American League's Detroit Tigers.
During his stint with the Tigers, he was name as the American League's MVP in 1911, and received the Triple Crown in 1909. Cobb was honored as 12-time AL batting champion, and AL homerun champion in 1909. After twenty-one seasons with the team, he became a free agent, signed with Philadelphia Athletics and retired from playing baseball in 1928.
Tyrus Raymond Cobb was born on December 18, 1886 in Narrows, Georgia. On July 17, 1961, he died due to prostate cancer.
