Tony Gwynn is a former American baseball player who has an estimated net worth of $38.8 million.

Tony Gwynn's career started when he received a sports scholarship from the San Diego State University. During his freshman year in the school, he had a brief stint playing basketball, and then he joined the Aztecs baseball team in 1979. He became designated hitter and named as a two-time All-American outfielder.

During the 1981 Major League Baseball Draft, he was selected by the San Diego Padres as the third round, 58th overall pick. Gwynn played for the team's Class A Minor League affiliate, Walla Walla Padres for one season. While with the team, he earned most valuable player honors and recorded .331 with 12 homers and 17 stolen bases in 42 games.

He debuted in the major league in 1982. During his first year with Padres, Gwynn started playing as center field but placed in disabled list due to wrist injury.

During his entire stint with the team, Padres clinched the National League - West title in 1984. Gwynn hailed as 5-time Gold Glove Award, 7-time Silver Slugger Award, and a recipient of Roberto Clemente Award in 1999. He announced his retirement on June 28, 2001.

Anthony Keith Gwynn, Sr. was born on May 9, 1960 in Los Angeles, California. He is married to Alicia and has 2 children. Life after retirement, he was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007, and been diagnosed with cancer of the salivary gland. On June 16, 2014, he died at the age of 54 at Pomerado Hospital, Poway, California.
