Roberto Alomar is a former Major League Baseball (MLB) player who has an estimated net worth of $40 million. He was born Roberto Alomar Velázquez on February 5, 1968 in Ponce, Puerto Rico and was raised in Salinas, Puerto Rico. He grew up in a baseball family as his father, Sandy Alomar Sr., pursued a Major League career with the New York Yankees along with Thurman Munson and Graig Nettles. His idols include his own father and Jose Cruz.
Regarded by many as one of the best second basemen in MLB history, he was a switch hitter and threw right-handed. He was even a 12-time All-Star during his career. He won more Golden Gloves (10 times) than any other second baseman in baseball history. He also won the third-most Silver Slugger Awards (4 times) for a second baseman.
At the age of 17, Alomar signed with San Diego Padres in 1985. He was traded to the Toronto Blue Jays along with Joe Carter in exchange Fred McGriff and Tony Fernández. He also played for MLB teams, such as Baltimore Orioles and Cleveland Indians.
Roberto Alomar is a member of two World Series champions with Toronto - perennial Gold Glove second baseman and All-Star. He was the MVP of 1992 ALCS. He became known well beyond baseball for spitting in the face of umpire John Hirschbeck during final weekend of 1996 season. He was later named MVP of 1998 All-Star Game. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame on January 5, 2011, the first among the Toronto Blue Jays player.
