Popularly known as "The Wizard" because of his defensive brilliance, Ozzie Smith is a professional baseball player who played for the St. Louis Cardinals and San Diego Padres of the Major League Baseball from 1978 to 1996. He was part of the St. Louis Cardinals team that won in the 1982 World Series.
In 1987, he became the recipient of NL (National League) Silver Slugger Award for being the best-hitting shortstop of the year. On his first year of eligibility in 2002, he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame.
After his successful baseball career, Ozzie Smith worked as the host of the TV show This Week in Baseball which was aired from 1997 until 1999. He also became an entrepreneur. In 2012, his net worth was estimated to be around $15 million.
Born in Mobile Alabama on December 26, 1954 as Osborne Earl Smith, he and his family moved to Watts, Los Angeles when he was six years old. This is where he developed his athletic abilities as he discovered his quick reflexes. He then went on to play baseball during high school and college.
