Jon Lester started his career in Bellarmine Preparatory School and played for its baseball team. He was three-time MVP awardee and three-time All-Area selection. He was named as Gatorade State Player of the Year for Washington in 2000.

He was chosen by the Boston Red Sox as the second round, 57th overall pick during the 2002 Major League Baseball Draft. Lester appeared in MLB All-Star game in 2010, 2011, and 2014.
