He earned his net worth as an outfielder for the Seattle Mariners of Major League Baseball (MLB). He was born Jason Raymond Bay on September 20, 1978, in Trail, British Columbia. During his youth, he played baseball with the Trail little league team that reached the 1990 Little League World Series. He attended North Idaho College in Coeur d'Alene and Gonzaga University in Spokane where he played college baseball from 1996-1999. He played for the Chatham Athletics in the Cape Cod Baseball League in 1999.

In the 22nd round of the 2000 Major League Baseball Draft, he was drafted by the Montreal Expos. He was then assigned to the Expos’Short-Season A team in Burlington, Vermont, the Vermont Expos. On March 24, 2002, he was traded to the New York Mets with Jim Serrano for Lou Collier. At the 2002 trading deadline, he was traded to the San Diego Padres with Josh Reynolds and Bobby Jones for Jason Middlebrook.

Jason Bay debuted with the Padres on May 23, 2003. He got his first major league hit, a home run, in the ninth inning. On August 26, 2003, he was traded to the Pittsburgh Pirates along with Oliver Perez and Cory Stewart in exchange for Brian Giles. He finished the season with a .287 batting average, four home runs, and 14 RBIs in 30 games. On July 31, 2008, he and John Wilson were traded to the Boston Red Sox in a three-team deal that sent Manny Ramirez to the Los Angeles Dodgers and Andy LaRoche with Bryan Morris to the Pittsburgh Pirates from the Dodgers, and Brandon Moss with Craig Hansen to the Pirates from the Red Sox.    He scored both runs in his Red Sox debut. He agreed to a four-year contract with the New York Mets on December 29, 2009. He was signed by the Seattle Mariners to a one year deal on December 8, 2012.

Bay was named the National League Rookie of the Year in 2004. He won the Silver Slugger Award in 2009. He is also a three-time MLB All-Star and a three-time Tip O’Neill Award winner as the best Canadian athlete.
