Edwin Encarnacion is a Dominican baseball athlete who currently plays in the MLB for the Toronto Blue Jays as the team's designated hitter and first baseman. In 2013, he received an annual salary of $8 million.

Edwin Elpidio Encarnación was born on January 7, 1983 in La Romana, Dominican Republic. In 2009, he was selected as a ninth round pick in the amateur draft, and was later signed by the Texas Rangers.

In June 2001, he was traded to Cincinnati Reds along with Ruben Mateo in exchange for Rob Bell. He played for the Reds until 2009.

In the same year, Encarnacion was traded to Toronto Blue Jays along with Zach Stewart and Josh Roenicke in exchange for Scott Rolen. In December 2010, Encarnacion was signed by the Blue Jays to a one-year $2.5 million contract plus $3.5 million worth of club option in 2013. In 2013, Edwin Encarnacion was selected to an All-Star game.
