Zac Efron is taking to Instagram to show off his new look as Ted Bundy, and the resemblance is startling.
The 30-year-old actor best known for his comedic roles is taking on a very different part in the upcoming Ted Bundy thriller, Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile. The movie follows the shocking murders of Ted Bundy through the eyes of his girlfriend, Elizabeth Kloepfer.
Principle production of the movie began earlier this month with Zac taking mug-shots in character as Bundy to be used in the film. He posted a behind the scenes look at he process to his Instagram feed and it’s just a little creepy.
The picture, in black and white, shows Zac all dressed up as Bundy, holding a placard with the date and time of Bundy’s original arrest. He’s wearing a white tee and set of darkly colored slacks, with the caption “Meet Ted,” in the post followed by the hashtag “#behindthescenes.”
If the responses in Instagram’s feed are anything to judge, Efron’s fans are clamoring at the bit to see him in a more dramatic role. He most recently appeared in The Greatest Showman alongside Hugh Jackman where it was nominated for Best Musical at the Golden Globes.
Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile (which is one mouthful of a title) will mostly star Lily Collins playing Elizabeth Kloepfer, Bundy’s girlfriend living in denial that she’s dating a serial killer. The film will follow her dawning realization of what Bundy is and how she eventually comes to terms with the heinous crimes he’s convicted of.
Although Ted Bundy was only ever convicted of murdering two women, he later confessed to murdering dozens of women over the course of his life. He's believed to be responsible for 30 killings, but the true number may never be known.
Bundy was electrocuted by electric chair in Florida on January 24, 1989.
As for when the movie comes out, no release date is set, but the smart money is around the time Bundy died in 2019.
