Pro-Life Congressman To Step Down After Asking Mistress To Have Abortion

Congressman Tim Murphy is involved in a scandal, which shows that hypocrisy is still alive and well in the “swamp” of Washington, D.C. The 64-year-old congressman from Pennsylvania cheated on his wife with another married woman. The affair was with Shannon Edwards who is only 32-years-old. She works as a professional forensic psychologist.

News of the affair came out from the testimony given in the divorce proceedings of Edwards. She is seeking a divorce from her husband Dr. Jesse Sally, who is a sports medicine physician. The Allegheny County judge overseeing the divorce case ruled that Congressman Murphy must be deposed as part of the divorce trial.

People reported before this scandal broke, Murphy’s approval ratings were already at record lows. Murphy’s constituents complain that he failed to appear at town hall meetings to discuss the changes being proposed to the Affordable Care Act. As a sign of protest for his failure to address the concerns of his voters, they made this milk carton, shown in the photo and put it on stage next to an empty suit hung from a hat rack to show he was missing from the public talks.

To make matters worse, Congressman Murphy asked his mistress Edwards to get an abortion when they both thought she was pregnant with his child. Murphy has publicly been a strong pro-life supporter that issued many conservative statements that are strongly against abortion and a woman’s right to choose.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette conducted an investigation of the Murphy affair with Edwards, which uncovered a text message from Edwards allegedly written to Murphy, that said, “...you have zero issue posting your pro-life stance all over the place when you had no issue asking me to abort our unborn child just last week when we thought that was one of the options.”

Murphy’s alleged response to Edward’s text message was, “I get what you say about my March for life messages. I’ve never written them. Staff does them. I read them and winced. I told staff, don’t write anymore. I will.”

The congressman’s attorney issued an official statement from Murphy, which admits that he had the affair.

Politico said that Murphy met with Speaker Paul Ryan, in a private session, to discuss the matter. Many top Republicans expressed their desire that Murphy resign. Subsequently, Murphy announced he will retire at the end of his term because of the scandal.

In a statement he just released, the eight-term congressman said he wants to “take personal time to seek help as my family and I continue to work through our personal difficulties.”
