On The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Miley Cyrus revealed that she has donated $500,000 for the victims of the Hurricane Harvey. The singer was happy to help but saddened by the loss that people had to endure. DeGeneres also donated funds and raised a sum of $1 million from Walmart, to help the crowdfunding initiative started by J.J. Watts, the NFL player for Houston Texans.
Around 35 people have died in the floods and tens of thousands have lost their homes. About 32,000 people have already shifted away from Houston for the time being. The news about Hurricane Harvey keeps getting worse, but there are also people doing their bit to help those in need.
On the show, Cyrus was in tears and she didn’t know what to say. She couldn’t imagine what the people affected are be going through as they lost their homes, their loved ones, and got separated from their family.
She also took this opportunity to raise awareness about the cause as she urged people to put themselves in other's shoes in order to understand what they might be going through.
Along with Cyrus, DeGeneres personally donated a sum of $50,000 to the crowdfunded relief fund start by J.J. Watts. She also presented a $1 million cheque donated by Walmart. Thanks to donations from them, and many others, the fund has been able to cross the $10 million since it started on Sunday and it is doing every bit to help the victims.
J.J. Watts spoke to DeGeneres through FaceTime on the show, and she had also Tweeted a sneak peek of the video on Thursday. As Watts gave her a brief about the current condition, DeGeneres sent her best wishes and made sure she urged everyone watching to donate. Apart from the $1 million donation, Walmart will also donate $20 million in cash towards the relief fund.
