Ellen has set the bar high for talk show hosts after giving her audience one million dollars!
Yes, you heard that right. Ellen DeGeneres, host of The Ellen Show, partnered with Cheerios and their “One Million Acts of Good” to give her audience one million dollars. In celebration of the hosts 60th birthday, she brought in an audience filled with people who have done good in the world and who have paid it forward and surprised them with the astonishing amount.
The host began by mentioning to her audience how “everybody in the audience is here for a special reason”. Ellen continued by talking about her partnership with Cheerios and how the audience has helped them reach their “One Millions Acts of Good”. In addition to her weeklong birthday celebration, the talk show icon told her audience “there is no better way for me to celebrate my birthday than to share it with people like you.”

Audience members included Kenya and John Hughes, who delivered items to help the Hurricane Harvey victims using their own money. Other acts of good included teacher Lori Gaines, who was kind enough to donate her own kidney to a student’s mother along with Dan McKernan, who left his job to start a sanctuary for farm animals. The list of good deeds performed by the members of the audience goes on and on and it goes without saying they were all deserving of Ellen’s incredible thank you.
Of course, Ellen being Ellen, she didn’t give them the gift without having a little fun first. Before announcing, “the biggest gift I have ever given anybody ever” she had every audience member check beneath his or her seat for a box of Cheerios for the gift, and behold everyone had a box. The host then let the audience in on the gift and told them to “hold on to you Cheerio’s because all of you are splitting $1 million.”
Although every member did not get $1 million each, it goes without saying that they were ecstatic. The audience jumped to their feet hugging and crying with joy, who wouldn’t flip out with a gift like that!
We commend Ellen and Cheerio’s for such an amazing gift to a group of people who have helped those in ways that allow the world to be a better place. We should all take a page from Ellen and her generous ways and as the host says at the end of every episode, “be kind to one another.”
