Danny DeVito has weighed in on the Oscar Awards controversy, and he's not pulling any punches. The comedian, who plays the role of Frank on It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia, doesn't believe the Oscar Academy is the root of the race problem in Hollywood – he thinks it's because the country of America is filled with racists.

Speaking to the Associated Press at the Sundance Film Festival this past week in Utah, DeVito claims that “it's unfortunate that the entire country is a racist country.”

The Academy Awards do not feature any people of color nominated for the dozens of awards they hand out to the film industry's finest performances of the year, which has prompted many actors to boycott the gala. It even spawned the hashtag “#OscarsSoWhite” on social media.

"So this is one example of the fact that even though people we're giving great performances in movies, they weren’t even thought about. We are living in a country that discriminates and has certain racist tendencies," said DeVito. "So sometimes it manifests itself in something like this, and it’s illuminated. But just, generally speaking, we’re a bunch of racists."

Many actors have spoken out against the lack of diversity, including Will Smith, Don Cheadle, Matt Damon and host Chris Rock, who is rewriting his monologue to address the situation. The show takes place February 28.
