From a single coffee shop that opened in Seattle, Washington during March 1971, Starbucks has grown to over 26,000 worldwide locations. The Starbucks signature brand is easily recognizable; however, unlike other international restaurant chains, which have a formulaic style with little variation, the interior designs and the exteriors of the facilities of each specific Starbucks location are unique and some are exceptional.
Starbucks advanced a new style in the development of massive Starbucks Reserve stores. The buildings for the Reserve locations are enormous and architecturally stunning. Others are historical properties like the Starbucks built in the bank vault of a previous national bank building in Amsterdam and one found in a castle in Prague, which has a marvelous view of the town below.
Refinery 29 published some of these photos that Starbucks recently released showing some of their most exciting stores across the globe. The dynamics of the local culture from each area influences how the interior designs are created.
Here are some interesting Starbucks and many interior designs that are unique and special.
9. Breckenridge, Colorado
This Starbucks was created by the conversion and renovation of a vintage home. Because it is located in the state of Colorado, where marijuana use for recreational purposes is now legal, it is possible to enjoy smoking pot while having your morning coffee.
Starbucks announced in April 2017 that it will open a new massive, upscale Starbucks Reserve on Chicago’s Mag Mile during 2019. A building that was previously a Crate & Barrel retail store is being converted into a new Starbuck’s Reserve location. The Chicago location will be modeled after the style of the Starbuck Reserve in Seattle.
Swiss people have the opportunity to take Starbucks trains that travel between the major cities and also go to the international airports. These mag-lev trains float above the train tracks and fly at super speeds without experiencing much turbulence. What a pleasure it is to enjoy a Starbuck’s coffee while the train whisks along efficiently and smoothly to your destination.
MENA stands for the Middle East and North Africa. These Starbucks are found in the United Arab Emirates near Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Enjoying a cup of strong coffee in a social setting has been a long held tradition in this part of the world. Rather than grab a coffee on the run for take out, the culture in this part of the world is about sitting down, relaxing with friends, and taking the time to enjoy a long conversation.
5. Mexico City
The nicest way to enjoy a coffee at the Starbucks in Mexico City is to sit outside in the beautiful garden. This store offers a respite from the heavy traffic and air pollution found in this major metropolitan area. The plants provide some extra oxygen to breathe while enjoying a nice iced drink.
Another country in the Middle East that enjoys an attractive Starbucks design is Qatar. Most people from this country prefer to sit on long comfortable couches instead of in chairs. This is the kind of place where you may find yourself spending a few hours and not even notice that the time has gone by.
During 2018, Starbucks will open another Reserve “Roastery” in this historic building located in Milan, Italy. Milan was the city where espresso was invented. Starbucks’ CEO Howard Schultz has said that his vision for his restaurant chain was based on the wonderful times he experienced at coffee bars in Italy. This will be Starbucks first location in Italy. The plans are to open up to 300 stores in this country.
This is the Starbucks preeminent location in India that is lavishly outfitted. It is inside the Elphinstone Building, which is a historic property located on Horniman Circle. All the western drinks and favorite dishes are offered along with local specialties such as Tandoori Paneer Roll and Murg Tikka Panini.
This is the place where it all started and the Starbucks Reserve Roastery in Seattle is magnificent. It gets rave reviews and has many exotic coffee blends and drinks to try. When it opened in 2014, it instantly became one of Seattle’s most popular attractions for locals and visitors.
