Following a series of controversial tweets, adult film star August Ames was found dead at the age of 23. The cause of death is being attributed to asphyxiation caused by hanging.
According to Evening Standard, this comes after the star made a series of controversial tweets saying she stepped away from a project when she discovered she would be working with a man who worked in gay films. This caused some pretty nasty backlash, which only got harsher with every tweet she made to defend herself. The actress was known for battling depression, leading many to attribute the backlash from her tweet to pushing her over the edge.
‘Whichever (lady) performer is replacing me tomorrow...you’re shooting with a guy who has shot gay p*rn,” reads the tweet, “BS is all I can say.”
whichever (lady) performer is replacing me tomorrow for @EroticaXNews , you’re shooting with a guy who has shot gay porn, just to let cha know. BS is all I can say🤷🏽♀️ Do agents really not care about who they’re representing? #ladirect I do my homework for my body🤓✏️🔍— August Ames (@AugustAmesxxx) December 3, 2017
Ames went on to state that she refused to work the shoot because of safety concerns. This only drew more backlash from fans and other performers alike, with many saying that every performer is tested, meaning her concerns are not very warranted. Still, she stuck with her argument, saying it’s her body and she decides what she does with it. Ironically enough, Ames was outwardly bisexual, leading many to call her a hypocrite.
Her last tweet read "f*ck yall."
Ames was only 23 years old but accomplished quite a bit in the world of adult films. Appearing in 270 flicks since her debut in 2013, she was even a nominee for performer of the year for 2018.
Ames, whose real name is Mercedes Grabowski, was born in Nova Scotia, Canada. Her husband, Kevin Moore, also works in the industry as a director. At this time, he's asking for privacy as he deals with the loss of his wife. She was found in her Camarillo, California home.
Since the news broke, other adult stars have taken to social media to post tributes to Ames, with many saying she was one of the nicest people they’ve ever met.
“You were a beacon of light to many people in dark times,” says Nicolette Shea.
