Cheerleaders. There’s something about them that wins folks over and makes them easy on the eyes. A hot high school or college lady in a short skirt and tight top makes for a winning combination. Movies have played with this fantasy over the years with such hits as Bring It On and others to show off some hot ladies in various, sexy roles as members of a local cheerleading squad. TV has done it even more with several high school shows with cheerleaders as the main characters and a couple of shows pushing the motif well. True, many of them are portrayed as “mean girls” as well as ditzy and brainless, but other cheerleaders can be surprisingly deep and smart. What they all possess is a fantastic sex appeal that goes miles.
Cheerleader shows and movies have a very wide range. The range includes anything from comedies and dramas to even some sci-fi and horror programs. Blondes, brunettes, redheads, who are black, white, brown or anything in between have been the stars of these programs which makes this genre of character even hotter. Several actresses are even true athletes who get deep into the moves and are extremely believable while others, despite their athletic ability, are just a lot of fun to look at in a cheerleader’s uniform. What’s more, it’s fun how many of those playing teenagers are far older, but others still look great for the part. Here are the fifteen hottest cheerleaders that television has given us and how we do enjoy looking at these lovely forms.
15. Alex Russo – Wizards of Waverly Place
The fun of Alex is that unlike so many other Disney Channel characters, she could be an incredibly selfish and lazy gal. As a wizard, she would use her magic to get ahead a lot and avoid real work and was obsessed with her popularity. When her friend Harper joined the cheerleading squad, Alex did the same thing. Naturally, Alex couldn’t resist using her magic to try and stand out more amid the squad and used a spell to turn herself more “positive.” As usual, it backfired as Alex was way too preppy for the rest of the team and crowd. She remained with the team for a while despite the use of her magic to make herself the ultra peppy cheer leader. Even though Selena Gomez was young when she started out on Wizards, fans that have grown up with her can appreciate what a good cheerleading uniform can do for a gal.
14. Peyton Sawyer – One Tree Hill
While trying to act and look like the perfect cheerleader, Peyton actually had a rebellious side that was fed by her more artistic sensibilities. Hillarie Burton was super hot in the role of Peyton Sawyer, with her curly blond hair and a sharp attitude to compliment a nice body for her fans to gawk at. While Peyton could be the “good girl” in the show, she had a tough side, usually not above getting into a brawl if need be and was even able to balance out her romantic relationships with some guys at the same time. Seeing her and Sophia Bush doing cheer routines together was always great and Burton looked terrific in the uniform. As the show went on, Peyton got into singing, making an attempt to be a star and eventually hooked up with Lucas, her long-time love interest. While she left the show after its sixth season, Burton’s time made it a hit and her great attitude was a wonderful asset to the show.
13. Kelly Kapowski – Saved By the Bell
Unlike other cheerleaders, Kelly was the “nice girl.” Kapowski was well-meaning, bright, and just wanted to help others. Played by a young Tiffani Thiessen, Kelly was the most popular girl in school, always working it in her cheer routines and looking great in the whole process. She was the main object of affection for main character Zach (and other guys) and Thiessen handled the comedy aspects of the show well. As the show grew in popularity and as Thiessen got older, she showed off her body more in nice swimsuits and other costumes to remain a hot presence. She reprised the role for the college spin-off which ended with her and Zach finally getting married. Since then, Thiessen has gone on to numerous hot and sexy roles in movies and TV shows like 90210 and shown her body off in various magazine spreads. But Kelly remains her most famous role and she reprised it for a 2014 Jimmy Fallon skit where she still fit in the uniform perfectly. The object of desire of many a teenager of the ‘90s, Kelly could still rock the pom-poms today.
12. Caroline Forbes – The Vampire Diaries
The evolution of Caroline Forbes remains one of the best parts of The Vampire Diaries. In the first season, she was only a background character, just two steps up from an extra. She played a perky, blonde daughter of the town sheriff and was more interested in parties and clothes than anything of substance. But in season two, she was turned into a vampire and became a terrific character. The genius is that even though she had turned into a blood-sucking vampire, Caroline still wanted to be the best at school, including being the best cheerleader ever. She even used her new abilities to help make that happen. Candice Accola (now King) looked the part perfectly with blonde hair and a nice smile, always read with a clever quip and soon became one of the most popular characters of the series. She may have left cheerleading behind, but Accola showed from the start how she could steal the show.
11. Quinn Farbay – Glee
From the start, Quinn had it all. She came from a wealthy family, was a gorgeous head cheerleader, was head of the Chastity Club and everyone equally hated her and wanted to be her all at the same time. But her fall was hard as she cheated on her boyfriend, got pregnant, and lost her social status all at the same time. Through it all, Dianna Agron continued to show Quinn as a hard-edged woman with a sardonic tongue and rocking her glorious body in her uniform. She was also a top singer and dancer to keep pace with the genre of the show. Between the looks, charm, and talent, she was a triple threat on television screen. She left the show in a cloud of controversy with rumors of fights with producers, but did return for the final season for a nice close-out (which included a fling with friend Santana). Agron has gone on to show her real talent in some indie movies (which included nude scenes) and her showcase of Quinn as the quintessential cheerleader remains a key to how Glee turned into a hit.
10. Brooke Davis – One Tree Hill
If you’re casting a cheerleader meant to be the most desired girl in her school, you can’t do much better than Sophia Bush. She was a knockout with dark hair, killer body, sultry smile, and a nice voice. At first, Brooke was a somewhat one-dimensional gal, often seen as selfish and even had a reputation of “getting around. Her character began to evolve as the show went on, with Brooke beginning to develop pride in herself and even showing a willingness to help her friends. A wild party girl at times, Brooke toed the line between sinner and saint. She would mature to own her own fashion design house, all the while balancing various ups and downs in romance before marrying and becoming the real heart of the show. Bush was always easy on the eyes, possessing great comic timing and her evolution of “shallow” Brooke to “lovable” Brooke was terrific. The show ran nine seasons so Bush eventually grew out of the cheerleading phase, but those early seasons are always there to remind us who was one of the hottest cheerleaders of all time
9. Marti Perkins – Hellcats
As the short-lived CW series begins, Marti is a legal student with a bright mind who dismisses her college’s cheerleaders as a joke. When her scholarship suddenly dries up, Marti is forced the join the Hellcats team, using her gymnastics experience to gain a spot. Aly Michalka was terrific in the part, showing off her very toned body and doing some amazing moves. With her blonde locks and lovely smirk, promo photos for the show even had Michalka showing off her toned mid-riff and incredible legs. Not to be seen as a total airhead, the show’s writers had her career eventually freeing an innocent man from jail and also had her character show off her singing skills. As an aside, could you imagine Michalka as your lawyer in real life? It would be impossible to get any business done while keeping one eye on her at all times. You might get yourself arrested just so you could hire this brilliant cheerleader.
8. Mary Jo Caccitore – Blue Mountain State
Spike TV’s wild comedy series focused on a college football team whose players broke every rule possible and yet act shocked when they are called on it. It’s no surprise it had some sultry cheerleaders, many living up the reputation as “easy” girls who loved partying. Mary Jo starred in the second season and soon was a winner among the cast thanks to how great Frankie Shaw looked in the uniform with dark hair and a wicked smirk. She had a bad habit of showing up to practice drunk and acted rather ditzy most of the time, not helping the cheerleader stereotype. Oh, Mary Jo was also lazy so even her fellow cheerleaders couldn’t stand her. The third season had her get even hotter as she found her true lesbian self and had an affair with Denise Richards’ character as “payment” for some help. No matter what, Shaw rocked it in the very alluring outfits she had and showcased the wild goings on of the series well. A college cheerleader is already hot, but one that has no problem getting freaky with other girls is even better.
7. Brittany Pierce – Glee
In the early episodes of Glee, Brittany was just simply a forgettable side character. As she became more prominent, it was soon clear she was a complete moron whose ridiculous observations sparked major laughs. Heather Morris was quite the looker already, but the cheerleading outfit in the show managed off the legs her smooth, toned legs that she’d use on major dance numbers. Her incredible singing voice and hot costumes only helped enhance something that was already fantastic and turn into something daydreams are made of. Unfortunately for fans, she was written off the show in the fifth season due to Morris’ real life pregnancy, but returned for the final season where she and Santana were finally married. Morris has settled into motherhood in real life, but her portrayal of the brainless hottie helped Glee go from a show for kids who like to sing, to a hit for people who like young women in cheerleading uniforms.
6. Savannah Monroe – Hellcats
Ashley Tisdale is well known for her Disney Channel role in the mega smash hit High School Musical, but that was more in the “jailbait” stage of her career. Starring in the show Hellcats, Tisdale’s character, Savannah is the ultra-religious captain of the Hellcats cheerleading squad. Her character sports a perky attitude and has an ethical side, but make no mistake about Savannah’s desire to win. A big moment in the pilot is her doing a speech on the pain cheerleaders go through and how “we are athletes” and backs it up with her hard work on the mat. Her usual blond locks are dyed dark and this only compliments her great, smooth legs, kicking high in the cheerleader outfit. Like so many others on this list, getting to watch an actress come of age right before your very eyes is good. Watching her do it in a cheerleading outfit is divine.
5. Cordelia Chase – Buffy the Vampire Slayer
It’s amazing that Charisma Carpenter was 26 when cast as Cordelia because the producers from Buffy needed someone to play a high school cheerleader. Thankfully, they found their woman despite her age. From the start, Cordelia was the queen bee of Sunnydale. She posed as a rich and spoiled brat who threw her considerable influence around a lot. She was naturally the head of the cheerleading club and in an episode where Buffy went undercover while investigating a witch attacking them, Carpenter looked terrific in the skirt and top. Cordelia would eventually start playing nice with the group, becoming more a member of the team after losing her fortune and throne as queen bee. She then moved onto the spin-off Angel with even hotter outfits and a sharp attitude, keeping her a great highlight of the series. Carpenter has gone on to a great career in various hot roles in TV shows and movies, often baring her incredible body. The fact she could still fit into that cheerleading outfit today makes her turn even sexier and why Cordelia has to rank high on this list.
4. Lyla Garrity – Friday Night Lights
FNL is generally considered one of the greatest sports shows of all time. Its view of high school life is incredibly realistic with teens who act like real teenagers (selfish and stupid), but are well meaning, sensitive, children all at the same time. Minka Kelly was a standout from the start as Lyla, the daughter of one of the richest men in her Texas town and the head cheerleader dating the star quarterback. But when Jason Street is paralyzed in an accident, Lyla ends up sleeping with a “bad boy” teammate and going on downward spiral. She had ups and downs over the series from turning to religion to finding out her dad lost her college money on a bad deal. A big moment was her throwing her uniform into the garbage as a sign of her newly found strength. As with many of the characters, she drifted from town after graduation, but made a few more appearances later on. With Kelly’s gorgeous looks and hot body helping her stand out, Kelly turned FNL into not only one of the best sports shows of all time, but one of the best shows period.
3. Jackie Burkhart – That ‘70s Show
It’s a famous story that the producers of this long-running Fox sitcom assumed Mila Kunis was the classic case of a 20-year-old pretending to be a high schooler. It soon turned out she was actually only 15, but was so winning in the role that they kept with her anyway. Already amazingly hot, Kunis’ character, Jackie, was an extremely popular member of the cheerleading squad, often lording her social status over the other characters on the snow. At first rather selfish, she was given scenes that displayed a wicked attitude caused by her parent’s wealth (well, by Wisconsin standards), but she matured to a likable person by the show’s end. Proving that she was brains and not just beauty, Jackie actually ends up leaving their small town to pursue a college education. Kunis, of course, has gone on to become a hot sexpot in various movies and TV shows and remarkable how her talent grew with her looks.
2. Santana Lopez – Glee
The hottest and bitchiest of the “Cheerios” on Glee was the pony-tailed teen who was easily a fantastic highlight of the show. With her sardonic manner, she got lines that cut deep into anyone and looked terrific during her dance routines. Santana was made a tramp-like figure, sleeping with guys and enjoying handing out put-downs to people, but her sexy nature pretty much made that okay to most of the viewers. Actor Naya Rivera managed to add humanity to the part when Santana admitted she was gay and in love with Brittany. The scene of her coming out to her religious grandmother and getting disowned was powerful, as Santana was forced to handle life in New York City, trying to make it on her own in such a cruel world. Rivera handled the great song numbers and got a fine sendoff with Santana and Brittany becoming happily married and living happily ever after. Through it all, Rivera’s steamy Latina looks made this one fiery cheerleader to love
1. Claire Bennet – Heroes
“Save the cheerleader, save the world.” For the first glorious season of Heroes, this mantra was a key reason the show became a huge hit. The cheerleader in question was Claire, played by Hayden Panettiere, in her star-making role. A seemingly normal teen, Claire soon discovered she had a healing factor that allowed her to come back from just about any injury (even fatal ones) fast. She was soon the target of the murderous power-stealing Sylar, and tried to keep herself safe in the process. As the series went on, Claire tried to adapt to a regular life, including attending college where she was attracted to her roommate. Sadly, the fall in quality of the show after its first season was probably correlated with the lack of showing Hayden in her signature cheerleader uniform. Regardless, Panettiere was terrific in the role, with her blonde locks flowing and giving the whole world goosebumps. The show may have faltered, but Claire’s sexiness grew as it went along to help make it watchable.
