While being a celebrity comes with many rewards, it’s not always easy to live the life of constant fame. One of the biggest sacrifices in becoming famous is the fact that the world will continue to delve into all things personal, which includes sexual preference. The idea of having a private life is completely done away with and the new norm for a celebrity is trying hard to keep prying eyes at bay. One of the biggest sayings surrounding celebrities is that they haven’t achieved true fame until the gay rumors begin. The media loves to speculate on sexual preferences of their favorite stars and finding out a deep dark secret would be the scoop of the century. Hollywood has a history of celebrities living a double life in order to maintain popularity with the public and continue getting film roles. Rock Hudson is a great example of a heartthrob film star that hid his homosexuality in order to maintain his status as a film star.

Sexuality has become a hugely complicated factor in the lives of celebrities since a lot has changed in the way the world views it. While it was once incredibly shaming and considered the end of a career, there have been a number of pioneers in the entertainment industry that have become hugely successful despite their homosexuality. In fact, those that have came out as gay or bisexual have received a ton of free publicity, which has led to increased career opportunities. Regardless, there are still many celebrities that remain ambiguous in their true nature and rumors have swirled for years. Check out our list of the 20 celebs everyone thinks are gay and see if you can tell which have been living truthfully or in deceit.

During her quest to become a full-on film star, she actually dated True Blood’s Alexander Skarsgård for quite some time.
