There are many people in the entertainment industry that have a certain degree of talent, depending on their niche. Others in the entertainment industry have multiple talents, which make them even more valuable. Throughout the years, reality TV has become more popular than it once was and even beats out some prime-time TV shows. One thing about reality TV is that is doesn’t take much talent to be a star. In fact, many reality TV stars were the average Joe who simply auditioned and then became part of the cast.

Not every reality show has a group of talentless cast members. Reality shows such as Real Housewives of Atlanta feature a cast that has many talents ranging from businesswomen to TV personalities. However, there are reality shows such as Jersey Shore and Bad Girls Club that do not require any degree of talent. In many instances, these reality stars gain a large amount of publicity once the shows air, leaving us wondering, why are they famous? Public figures such as Kim Kardashian, Kylie Jenner and Amber Rose are constantly talked about in the media whether or not they provide substance. 15. Paris Hilton

Paris is known for starring in the reality show, The Simple Life. She also made her way to acting in House of Wax and The Hills. Even before her rise to fame as a reality star and actress, she was already wealthy due to her family’s numerous Hilton hotel chains. Her great-grandfather Conrad Hilton, is the founder of the prestigious Hilton Hotels. In 2003, a sex tape was released that featured Hilton and her ex-boyfriend Rick Salomon titled 1 Night in Paris. Critics and fans have made mentions that Hilton was simply famous for being famous and categorized her as a celebutante which means “a celebrity not through talent or work, but through inherited wealth and lifestyle.”

Teyana Taylor appeared on an episode of My Super Sweet 16 back in 2007 and from there, her brand took off. My Super Sweet 16 is a reality show with wealthy parents who pay huge amounts of money for a sweet 16 birthday party. In most of these episodes, highlights included parents giving expensive vehicles as birthday gifts, celebrity recording artists, and tantrums being thrown. The same year of Taylor’s appearance on the show, she signed a deal with Pharrell Williams‘ label Star Trak Entertainment even though she did not release any music yet. In 2012, she moved on to signed with Kanye West’s label GOOD Music. Last summer, Taylor became Kanye’s new video vixen for his “Fade” music video which was released during the VMAs. Outside of music, she made appearances in films such as Stomp the Yard 1 and 2. She remains in the public eye with 4.3 million followers on Instagram and 1.12 million followers on Twitter.

13. Amber Rose

Amber Rose started her career off as a model who appeared in Young Jeezy’s music video for “Put On”, New York Fashion Week, Nicki Minaj’s “Massive Attack” and Wiz Khalifa’s “No Sleep” among many others. However, her career in the entertainment industry took off even further when she began dating Kanye West. Eventually, the couple broke up and then she began dating Wiz Khalifa whom she has a child with. Now, she is being talked about by most media outlets in some form. While she may have many fans, there are still those who criticized her celebrity status claiming that she used her relationships with celebrity figures to become a celebrity herself, especially since she had no real merits. Rose eventually branched out to become a businesswoman who opened her own clothing line in 2012 with a friend of hers. In 2016, she launched MuvaMoji, which is an emoji app with 900 emoji icons she created. That same year, she starred in her own talk show called The Amber Rose Show which aired on VH1.

12. Nicole ‘Snooki’ Polizzi

Snooki (aka Nicole Polizzi) is best known for starring in the Jersey Shore reality show. Jersey Shore documents eight housemates on how they’re spending their summer in Jersey Shore. Once the show aired in 2009, it was an instant hit and Snooki was the star. During her time on the show, Snooki liked to get drunk, party, and be a drama queen. In one episode, Snooki got into a jacuzzi wearing only a bra and thong–leading the guys to refer to her as a slutty Jersey girl. The series ended in 2012 and by the last two seasons, Snooki was earning $150,000 per episode. She went on to another MTV spin-off titled Snooki & Jwoww and then on to be a contestant on Dancing with the Stars. If that’s not enough, she joined the cast of The New Celebrity Apprentice hosted by Arnold Schwarzenegger which premiered January 2, 2017. When asked about her experience on the show and if she was nervous, Snooki said, “I was kind of just winging it. I was definitely a bit nervous, just because I’m not that competitive, and I knew that a lot of people on the show would be in it to win it. Obviously, I would love to win, but it was more of just a new experience to test myself and a new show I could do.”

11. Heidi Montag

Heidi Montag is allegedly famous for being raised rich on The Hills and is best known for starring in the reality TV series The Hills alongside Lauren Conrad. While attending the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, the ladies left the college to take an employment offer from Bolthouse Productions. A feud developed between Conrad and Montag regarding a rumored sex tape with Conrad and Wahler. This feud ultimately became the highlight of season 3 and continued into another season. As of 2010, Montag released an album titled, Superficial, which ended up being a flop and garnered criticism. She received even more criticism in light of her going through 10 plastic surgeries in just one day. Montag went on to appear in the film titled Just Go with It in 2011, and that same year, she made an appearance on the reality show Famous Food.

10. Lauren Conrad

Prior to starring on The Hills reality show, Conrad was one of the cast members on the reality show Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County. Both shows have their similarities since her life along with the lives of her friends were being documented. After filming several seasons of The Hills, Conrad decided to exit the show to seek after other potential career opportunities. Despite becoming extremely popular from being a reality TV star, she was faced with criticism from Thomas Rogers at Salon. He said she is “one of the dullest major characters in reality television history.” Most of the popularity Conrad gained from The Hills could mostly likely be due to the conflict she had with Heidi Montag.

9. Tila Tequila

Tila is best known for starring in her own reality TV show titled A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila in 2007. Since she was a bisexual model, she had her choice between 16 males and 16 females on the show. She was offered the show after being a very popular figure on MySpace. She started out in the entertainment industry as a model in Maxim, Playboy and Stuff along with other men’s magazines. Since the reality show, Tequila has been involved in multiple sex tapes including one that was filmed in 2010 with two p*rn stars. She was in another sex tape in 2014 with one of her ex-boyfriends. She appeared on another reality show titled Celebrity Big Brother in 2015, but that was short-lived as she remained on the show for only one day. As of 2016, Tequila apparently went from social media icon to a neo-Nazi. In November 2016, her Twitter account was suspended after she posted numerous racists Tweets. One of the photos she posted showed her posing along with two other people who were performing the Nazi salute. In some disturbing Tweets, she posted, “Are you and your people ready to be rounded up to FEMA camps?” and “I’m a white supremacist!”

8. Nicole Richie

Nicole is best known for starring in the reality show titled The Simple Life alongside close friend Paris Hilton. She is also Lionel Richie’s adopted daughter. Originally born Nicole Escovedo, she moved in with Lionel due to her family’s financial troubles. Eventually, she was legally adopted and took on the last name Richie. As a teenager, Nicole had issues with drugs, partying, and alcohol. In 2003, law enforcement officials discovered heroin inside of her vehicle and she was ordered into drug rehab and probation. Once Nicole left rehab, she joined forces with Hilton to star in The Simple Life followed by a music career with the rock band, Darling. Over the years, she has been criticized for her romantic relationships and for being too skinny.

7. Kate Gosselin

Kate is best known for starring in her own reality series titled Jon & Kate Plus 8. Gosselin’s career as a labor and delivery nurse was transitioned into being a prominent reality star after she gave birth to sextuplets. In 2005, Jon and Kate were featured on Sextuplets and Twins. By 2007, their reality show Jon & Kate Plus 8 was born and aired until 2009 due to their divorce. Up until then, the couple was known as the “first family of reality TV.” Following the divorce, Kate ran her own show titled Kate Plus 8. Fans have seen Gosselin appear on other reality shows including Celebrity Wife Swap, Celebrity Apprentice and Dancing with The Stars.

6. Mike Sorrentino

Sorrentino (aka Mike “The Situation”) rose to fame after he starred in the Jersey Shore reality show. On Jersey Shore, he was known for drunken fights, constantly flirting, his six pack, and for some reason, fans were entertained by all of this. His salary was as much as $150,000 per episode. Since the show, his popularity grew and he made appearances on notable talk shows such as The Jay Leno Show, The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien  and The Howard Stern Show. He was also a contestant on Dancing with the Stars season 11. In 2015, Sorrentino found himself in some legal trouble after he allegedly failed to pay taxes for nearly $9 million in income earned from 2010 through 2012.

Ray J is known for being an actor, recording artist and reality star. He gained his popularity from starring in the TV sitcom Moesha alongside his sister Brandy Norwood. He gained even more popularity in 2007 when a sex tape he made with ex-girlfriend, Kim Kardashian, was released. From there, Ray J starred in his own reality show titled For the Love of Ray J in 2009 and a year later, he starred in the reality show Brandy and Ray J: A Family Business. As of recently, he was kicked off Celebrity Big Brother after just one week of being on the show. As reported on TMZ, Ray J was experiencing extreme tooth pain which was initially ignored by producers. Eventually, a dentist was contacted who prescribed him painkillers. However, the painkillers did not alleviate his symptoms and he was taken to the hospital. Upon his arrival back to the “Big Brother” house, the producers refused to let him in. In response, Ray J said, “I’d never like to do that because I’m a producer as well and I like to be on the same page with everybody. But this is just not fair and if I have to take those precautions, I will. I don’t even care about my tooth, put me back in the house and let me work. This isn’t right.”

4. Tiffany Pollard, aka New York

Tiffany is most noted for starring in Flavor of Love followed by her own spin-off I Love New York. During her time on Flavor of Love, she was the loud-mouthed force that dominated the show with her nickname “HBIC (Head b**** in charge). She seemed to have been out of the spotlight throughout the years, especially since certain shows never made it to our TV screens. I Love New York season 3 was expected to air, but because of an “unfortunate event”, the show got pulled. In another situation, Pollard was expected to star in The Ratchet Queens, but she went in a different direction. She said, “Y’all knew I had to do this s*** again! This s*** never materialized.” She continued to say, “That show was presented to me by a smaller production company and it looked like we were going to do it for a while.”

3. Brooke Hogan

Brooke is the daughter of wrestler Hulk Hogan and starred in the reality series Hogan Knows Best alongside her family from 2005 to 2007. Due to family issues, the show was cancelled and she was given her own reality show titled Brooke Knows Best from 2008 to 2009. The show followed Brooke as she pursued a music career. In 2006, she released her first album titled, Undiscovered, which included her hit single “About Us.” Brooke released another album in 2009, but it was not successful and from there, she decided to dabble into acting. WWE has since fired Hulk Hogan after he allegedly went on a racist rant, and had a sex tape scandal.

Kylie is mentioned on nearly every media outlet lately. She is a reality star and part of the most famous family in the country–the Jenner/Kardashian family. Due to Kim Kardashian’s sex tape with Ray J, the family received an enormous amount of attention from the media. It wasn’t too long before the family launched their own reality TV series, Keeping Up with the Kardashians. Due to the success of the show, there were spin-offs that followed. In 2015, Time magazine added Jenner to the Most Influential Teens list. Believe it or not, Jenner does not actually like being famous. She revealed on an episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, “Some people are born for this life and some people aren’t. I just know I’m not supposed to be famous.”

Here we go. As with Kylie Jenner, you hear the name Kim Kardashian almost every day. If she sneezes, everyone knows about it. She started gaining some sort of media attention as Paris Hilton’s stylist and friend. She was pretty much in Hilton’s shadow until the sex tape with her and Ray J surfaced publicly. Not only did she gain massive media attention, but so did her family. Soon after the leak of the sex tape, the reality TV series Keeping Up with the Kardashians was launched on E!. Throughout the years, Ray J has not hesitated in taking credit for making her famous. However, Paris Hilton is also taking credit for catapulting Kardashian’s career. In 2016, Hilton liked an Instagram meme created by one of her fans. The meme took shots at Kanye West’s music video for “Famous” and portrayed an image that Hilton was the one who thrusted Kardashian into the spotlight. The image showed a photoshopped Hilton in bed with Kardashian and Kanye. The caption above the photo read, “I made this b**** famous.”
